Current issue of the briefing - article on Hillsong
Hi all,
There were 2 articles in the latest issues of the briefing discussing hillsong church and their doctrines, worship and other things. I found this quite informative. Try and have a read of it and see what you think.
I will comment on the first article (on the conference), since it’s the only one I have read so far.
On a Slashdot moderation system, I would rate it as “Informative” and “Insightful”. I think the conclusions drawn in the article are reasonable given the observations of what happened during the conference.
The only caveat I have is whether we should be confident enough to extrapolate the findings from one week of (what is presumably) a special event onto the course of “contemporary evangelicalism”. It’s sort of like extrapolating what happened during, say, MYC, on the whole of Sydney evangelicalism. It may be valid, but it may not always be.
Good point. Perhaps at such a large international conference the emphasis on unity is emphasised more compared to a regular Hillsong service with the aim of not to offend anyone, and so that is why their doctrines were not as explicitly preached…? Just some thoughts.
But I still think Payne and Cheng made some valid points and it reflects much of what I have experienced at the church on the occasions i have visited the conference and services.
