Going out with a software engineer

It’s been a little over one and a half years since I’ve gone out with my boyfriend Keith. Don’t know if you’ve heard but he’s kind of nerdy / geeky. But, I like many others, have found that they are girls’ best kept secret (just google nerds / geeks, husbands etc). They make really cool boyfriends! why you ask? Hmm let me tell you 10 reasons why (just off the top of my head).

  1. Incredibly loyal: They don’t go looking out for other girls, once they say they’re committed, they are. They’re very stable. They’re more interested in computers rather than girls anyway (but that’s a topic for another day!)
  2. Very smart: they are high achievers despite putting in not that much effort in things they don’t really enjoy. They don’t really need to study (they can spend more time with you and they’ll still be alright for that thing at work)
  3. Very well thought out: Never rushes into things irrationally, open minded but will analyse things to see if it makes sense or is logical. You can always run important decisions by them and you’ll get an objective opinion.
  4. Willing to be dressed by gfs: you can play around with their hair, buy them shirts, buy them pants, ties - pretty much dress them up and they can look really good (not that they don’t look good now..:p). And they’ll trust your judgement more than theirs. It’s fun!
  5. Financially sensible: Even though he doesn’t have as much money as say a boyfriend who works in a commerce / economics related field, the engineering boyfriend usually saves money and doesn’t use it on things that don’t matter. although they have the occasionally big expenditure on techy gadgets and things (e.g. cameras!), generally they are good financially.
  6. They can teach you things: like how to use cameras, do certain things on the computer, find better ways of doing things so that it’s more efficient. Can teach other people things too - you can be proud of him and gladly say, ‘that’s my boyfriend!’
  7. Smart in other areas: Besides their main geekiness, they often have other extracurricular interests like being really good at chess, or being really good at piano / violin, or having a love of opera, or being a fantastic swimmer / tennis player / badminton player.
  8. Balanced: will exert effort at work / uni and in work that they enjoy, but will also set aside time to rest and play (maybe by gaming or something…but anyway). They can be very self-controlled with the way they use their time and effort.
  9. They listen more than other guys: This man actually listens to you and thinks about what you said. You can also engage in very meaningful conversations about people, news, events, plans, etc and he’ll contribute a good share of it.
  10. Really loving: you can spend quality time with them, they will make effort to accommodate your inadequacies and they have lots of patience.

I may be biased and this might really be more ‘keith’ rather than nerd / geek. But stay tuned for the next post, talking about the ‘down side’ of having a geek / nerd as a boyfriend :p. He’s given me permission to talk about it! (so understanding… :D)
