Diaphragm exercises…
A number of you probably know of my “diaphragm exercises”. You know, sometimes after eating a very large meal, and you’re feeling really full, I recommend doing the “diaphragm exercise” to try to make you feel less bloated.
For some of you, it has worked before; for the others, not so much luck. Some of you have asked me how I came up with such a ridiculous thing in the first place. Well, now that I have sufficient interest, here’s a brief history…
Most of you probably know this already – I’m fairly comfortable with the ins and outs of the human body… since I was a little kid. What you probably don’t know (actually, I’m pretty confident that nobody knows… not even Joyce, until she reads this) was that I spent a brief period time with a speech pathologist when I was a little kid (probably around year 3/4).
Apparently, I couldn’t enunciate my words properly and so people had difficulty understanding what I was saying because I talked too fast and I my tongue was too lazy to construct syllables properly.
So, this speechie dude teaches me about the very basic anatomy and physiology of speech. He taught me how to use the different parts properly (lips, tongue, vocal cords, diaphragm, etc) so as to ensure correct diction.
One exercise that he made me do was to ensure proper breath control via controlling the diaphragm. I guess this is where it all began.
One day after eating a rather large dinner, I was feeling kinda bloated. This was when I linked the idea of using the “diaphragm exercise” to expel gas out of the fundus. (Basically, the digestion process will produce some gas in the stomach, and that gets trapped in the fundus.)
What I tried to do was to use my diaphragm to put some pressure on the fundus, whilst trying to burp at the same time. After multiple unsuccessful attempts, I managed to trigger a burping reflex and up came a whole bunch of gas.
Instant decrease in bloatiness feeling.
After that, I’ve been practicing it somewhat so that I can perform it whenever it’s required. Quite a useful technique to have up your sleeve whenever you’re planning on going to a buffet…
I remember the days…
But I have to admit.. I can’t eat as much as I used to anymore.
Kohya buffet is no longer worthwhile for me (and the other reason is that they jacked the prices up!)
Hmmm… yeah, I don’t seem to be quite as prodigious with my feats of eating these days neither.
Last time I went, the Kohya buffet was $30. What is it now?
Kohya no longer has the different buffet choices (there was the stingy meat-only-only-available-after-9pm $25 one, the one-we-normally-have $30 one, and the wagyu-and-other-expensive-crap $40 one).
There’s only 1 buffet at $38 now.
I’ve found a much better place now. It’s called Katsura. It’s on Military Road and it has 2 sides to the restaurant, the sushi side, and the yakiniku side. The food is really good, but for some reason it’s always empty (maybe people don’t know of the place yet).
Oooh… sounds interesting. Will probably have to try that out sometime… maybe after a Sunday service.
