It’s been a tad over three weeks since the last blog entry, and I’ve been pretty flat out with stuff. Part of my spare time was spent on RICE photos (I’ll post a few of them up in the gallery soon. You can also find them in my Facebook photos section – here, here, and here).
Joyce and I went to a restaurant called Feltons for my birthday. I’m sure she’ll will write up a review of the restaurant soon.
We also watched Die Hard 4. Joyce, being a fan of the Die Hard series, was somewhat disappointed that it didn’t really turn out like the previous movies. As for me, I’m pretty much in it for the special effects and action, so I wasn’t disappointed. Of course, the plot had more holes in it than Farrell’s apartment once the goons had finished with it, but what the heck – it’s an action movie.
At work, I’ve recently been (and am still) doing patent stuff. If you ignore the fact that the whole patent creation/filing process is just something that’s necessary for lawyers to earn a ludicrous amount of money translating your concise and succinct description of an invention into pages upon pages of mind-numbing, soul-destroying, undecipherable legal jargon, then patent work can be pretty fun…
I wrote this about a month ago, and forgot to post it. I welcome people’s thoughts about this…
Over the last 2 months, Keith and I have been thinking about social groups at church. Those that you might hang out with outside of church time just for social reasons (not planned socials, or for meetings). It seems to me that having a bunch of friends like this can be pretty hard sometimes if you don’t live close by…

It was very interesting today. Three people I know told me that they got engaged today. (Congratulations!) One of them is my distant cousin with whom I keep in contact, another is a sister in Christ who I taught piano for awhile back, and another is my brother in Christ with whom I used to do mission with. Freaky that all of these pieces of happy news came on the same day! (And it’s not even Spring, it’s Autumn! (Sorry Grace, I think our theory about Spring and love has been shot down :p). Thus this further confirms the sense that I am definitely in the ‘age’ of engagements and weddings (as compared to the ‘age’ of going to 21sts every few weeks).
Also interesting is that all these people had spread their news by technological means through mass email / sms. How did people in the ‘olden days’ manage to tell their family and friends without these technologies?
:P
According to this test (which I’m sure is scientifically proven to be accurate, unbiased, and hence to be taken seriously), I’m in the wrong career…
Your major should be Art. You are sensitive, creative, and you don’t follow established rules. Unfortunately, you’ll have to follow some rules if you ever want that promotion at Starbucks.
Interesting…

A number of people have remarked that the now-previous name for this site – “Minimalistic Loquacity” – didn’t really seem appropriate given the contents.
Well, that was because I came up with that name before there was actually content. I’ve now decided to change it to “Scribem” – based on the Latin verb “scribo”: “to write”, since this site is essentially a collection of writings.
Whilst it’s now more appropriate, I’m not sure what remarks I’ll get this time now that the name has been changed. I guess you can’t please everyone…
Recently, I’ve been getting quite a bit of activity on the Multiply network. A few years ago, we just simply used this as a way for us people at work to share photos with one another without any storage limitations. Now, it looks like people are actually using it to blog, share photos, share contacts, etc.
So, I figured I might as well update it a bit by crossposting to both my own site as well as my Multiply site.
Readers from my droiby.net site, say “Hello!” to all who may read my Multiply blog.
Readers from my Multiply blog, give my droiby.net site readers a big wave. *waves*
Note that I don’t plan to update my Multiply photo gallery, since I already have one up here. My Multiply blog section should be synchronised to my droiby.net blog (as of this post onwards).
Anyway, more stuff to come later.
There is no better reminder of one’s mortality than the sudden death of somebody close to you…
Police rang up this morning to inform us of the death of one of my teammates. Our whole team was pretty much shocked when we heard the news. Having worked quite closely with him over the past month (we were paired up on the same task) and spending much time getting to know him in a social context, his passing is something that is very difficult for me to deal with.
Dude, you’ve been a blast to work with, and who can forget your DDR madskillz? It’s sad to see you go at such a young age, and you’ll be missed by all of us from your team and lunch group. My thoughts and sympathies go to your family and friends during this difficult time.
Hi everyone, great that you could make it to our page. So what will I be writing? Pretty much things that I think about, things that Keith thinks about, and things that Keith and I get into ‘heated discussions’ about. These will probably include topics such as relationships, why people do things the way they do, guys, girls, families, children…like an application of what I learn in psychology; integrating some church things as well. Also I will be sharing about what I learn from the experiences of life - good and bad. So I hope that this website gets you thinking really hard, and that it is somewhat of a blessing to you =) (Oh, and as you can probably tell, Keith came up with the name of this site. I had no idea what ‘loquacity’ was)
It’s time to make good use of this webspace…
Don’t expect too much, though, at this point. I guess just like how when you move into a new place, you start off with bare furnishings and you slowly accumulate more and more things and so your residence evolves into a home. It’s also like when you format your hard disk and wipe everything so that you start from scratch and slowly reinstall everything that you need.
